Telehealth

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth refers to the practice of using telecommunications technology to evaluate, diagnose and care for patients at a distance. It has quickly become an important and mainstream channel of healthcare delivery in the United States.

How does Telehealth work?

Through a secure platform, the provider links clients via an internet connection, web portal, and two-way live video. Through the platform, the client can interact with the provider just as he/she would if it was an in-person session.

Does it have the same impact as traditional face-to-face services?

Luckily, there has been a lot of research on telehealth and patient outcomes as it continues to grow as a service delivery model. Research has found very few differences between teletherapy and traditional in-person therapy! The quality of care provided virtually by ASIC Behavioral Health is the same as traditional face-to-face care.

Is it a secure network?

Yes. ASIC Behavioral Health uses a secure platform that is compliant with HIPAA regulations.

What does the patient have to do in telehealth?

The patient’s role is simple. The patient must be in North Carolina at the time of their appointment, in a private area where they can speak freely and confidentially about their symptoms and progress and be

connected to a secure internet connection. If patients are using their phones, we encourage you to place your phone on “Do Not Disturb Status” to decrease technical issues during the visit. Also, we ask that you are not in a public place such as shopping center, another appointment, or some other public setting where confidentiality may be compromised. You may be asked to reschedule if the above requirements are not met at the time of your appointment.

What are the benefits of Telehealth?

1. Decreased need to take time from work or school as appointments. Appointments can be held any

where that office safe and sufficient privacy

2. Ability to keep appointments while meeting childcare and family responsibilities

3. Eliminate transportation costs

4. Increased infection control during times of illness
